PROBATIONER GRADE: CIRCLE CASTING | |
				| Preparation: The circle can be permanent (i.e. painted)
or temporary (i.e. constructed using the Thoth Tarot deck, drawn
with chalk or created on a roll of canvas). The signifiers for
the four quarters can be any object of suitable nature or a
reasonably extrapolated object complementing the natures of the
quarters (see Liber DCCLXXII). They are placed at their
respective quarters, outside the circle, and serve, among other
purposes, as a method of discerning the proper directions. The
candles are set up outside of the circle either in front of the
signifiers or evenly spaced between. The Magician remains firmly
fixed in the centre of the circle throughout. All movement is by
				turning on the axis.

Casting the Circle: The Magician, facing the
northeast, points to the edge of the circle and recites the
prepared Statement while turning widdershins (counter
clock-wise) tracing the boundary. The method of pointing is left
to the Probationer’s discretion. (i.e. a single finger from the
hand pointed with the remaining fingers tuck into the palm and
the thumb overtop or both hands clasped together with fingers
interlaced and the two index fingers pressed together and
pointed to the boundary). The statement must be concise (i.e. “I
surround myself with this circle of protection”.) and the
tracing of the circle should finish at the same instant as the
statement, with the Magician finishing in the same direction as
he or she started. The Probationer must learn to project their
energies into the circle thereby creating a discernable effect.

Charging the Quarters: The Magician, points to
each quarter and recites the prepared verses, one suitable verse
per quarter. The Probationer must compose his or her own quarter
calls using the charts in Liber DCCLXXII as a guide. However,
the following represents an excellent example of verse, written
by a Probationer, for the quarter calls:

"O Thee, crowned with Light, armed with the Sword, Lucifer!
Great angel enlightening the World, spark of the Stars. Arise
and come forth from the air, to this Temple of four gates and
guard this circle from all perils approaching from the East!"

"O Thee, crowned with Life, armed with the Wand, Satan! Lion
serpent, master of the flame, heart of the Stars. Arise and come
forth from the fire, to this Temple of four gates and guard this
circle from all perils approaching from the South!"

"O Thee, crowned with Love, armed with the Cup, Leviathan!
Dragon of the deeps, guardian of the bitter seas, mirror of the
Stars. Arise and come forth from the water, to this Temple of
four gates and guard this circle from all perils approaching
				from the West!"

"O Thee, crowned with Liberty, armed with the Disk, Belial! Thou
horned and mighty bull, ruler of the land, concealer of the
Stars. Arise and come forth from the earth, to this Temple of
four gates and guard this circle from all perils approaching
				from the North!"

Charging the Spirit: The Magician again faces
northeast (being the direction of the Aeon of Horus) and the
fifth verse is recited while forming a pillar (i.e. standing
completely straight) or pointing, using the same method as the
				quarters, to the heart:

"O Thee, crowned with the unity of Light, Life, Love and
Liberty. Heart of the Universe, Spark of creation, Mirror of
All, Concealer of Naught, Thou Star! Arise and come forth from
Within. Enter in turn or at once this Palace of four gates."
